Jaw surgery for caucasians in Korea
« on: January 28, 2016, 10:49:59 PM »
So as we all know, double-jaw surgery is huge in South Korea, but the results generally look quite different than elsewhere in the world because of very specific local beauty ideals.  But it certainly is a lot cheaper than in the West.

To be honest, most results I've seen from the leading clinics there look horrible to me; With the exception of severe defomity cases I think most looked better before!  But then again I don't come from a place that values "small-face" and I don't want to look like a child.

But are there any doctors in S. Korea that actually do non V-line corrective jaw surgery on Caucasian people with good results?

I’ve consulted with Dr. Hsieh and I think he’s brilliant and near the top of my list.  Are there any others in Asia of note? I’d also be open to go to Thailand.

I was very close to getting surgery done by someone at Severance Hospital in Korea two years ago, but I couldn't stay there long enough to get it done. The surgeon was very knowledgeable and thorough. He was a specialist in condylar resorption and condylar hypoplasia, and he definitely knew what he was talking about. University hospitals in Korea barely care about aesthetics. Function is their priority. On the other hand, private clinics care too much about aesthetics, which can negatively impact function. The beauty standard is very different though, and you're right to be worried about that. They like small chins and very feminine-looking jaw lines. They really do not like angled jawlines, and will go out of their way to avoid making your jaw look angled.
