Hey everyone. I am on the mend. Things are healing up nicely. My sleep has greatly improved, and because of that my general wellbeing has improved concurrently. The dreams are incredible! Also I can breathe so much better through my nose. What a relief.
I want to take a second to show some gratitude for this message board. This has been the only source of support I have had through out this whole experience. Yes family and friends are there for you, but they can't really relate. This journey is a very isolating experience and this message board is a fantastic resource for information (sometimes misinformation, lol) and support. So thank you all very much!
Anyone who is just beginning this weird, long, lonely, journey; just know that you will survive and you will be in a much better situation eventually. It seems like it will take forever, but just be patient and try your best to ease your mind. You are not alone. There are people just like you, going through very similar situations.
Also, make sure you voice every concern with your doctor. Do NOT be meek. This is your face, and your future and every concern you have should be taken into consideration.
Okay, on to the concern
Has anyone felt that their advancement was not far enough? I am not referring to aesthetics, but function and sensation.
I know it is early on in the recovery, but I am very scared that I would have been happier with the results if the advancement were just a little more, maybe even as little as 3mm more.
The reason I think this is based on the constricted feeling in the back of my throat I have referred to in prior posts, like there isn't enough room in your mouth for your tongue. It has gotten much better, but it is still there. Now when I jut out my lower jaw so my incisors meet tip to tip that feeling of constriction is just about gone and my tongue can calmly fit in my mouth.
My life has improved as a result of this surgery already, but I will go great lengths to completely rid myself of this constricted feeling, even a second surgery.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Has anyone had a second orthognathic surgery? How was your experience with insurance?
