To be fair, most patients don't have any feeling post-op so pain levels are supposed to be quite low. I hear mostly about vomiting blood and stuff like that.

If the patients are still numb and without any feeling on day 2, then they may have way too much nerve damage for typical surgeries. From everything I have learned about the post op course for patients having this type of surgery, the reports of pain off scale high a week or 10 days after surgery is extremely atypical. I think if the surgery is skillfully done and without complications, the pain level off of opioids should normally be in the +3 range.
And, yes, every patient is different, and each one has a different threshold for pain.
Regardless, some stranger coming to this forum will be forever discouraged from even considering jaw surgery - - if they think that +10 is "normal". It is not.
