What surgery do I need?
« on: March 10, 2017, 10:58:17 PM »
Hi,

I'm a 21 year old guy and my chin is real short, and weak. I'm also thinking my jaw might be recessed and was going to go get a ceph lateral x-ray done.
Since I already had done a Panoramic x-ray done about a year ago.

What route is there that I could go to bring about a more engaging and fit appearance?

Both of your jaws are recessed. Your chin doesn't look bad, but it just appears weak because your lower jaw is so recessed. You need bimax with counterclockwise rotation for optimal aesthetics. You should also get a sleep study considering your facial type.

yes get a sleep study done and see a maxilliofacial surgeon who does the ccw rotation.  theyre hard to find in north america so i hope you live in europe.

Thanks for the reply guys. I had a sleep study done, and sleep apnea was confirmed. Are you able to reccomend a doctor to see?

On the contrary, CCW seems like an "American thing".

What's a CCW? And why would Europe have better doctors than the ones here in America?

If you're in the US, Gunson and Wolford are the best surgeons for CCW.

What about Sinn ?
I don't think he does big rotations like those two. I may be wrong, but that's my impression.

wolfords unethical imo because hes constantly replacing healthy tmjs with his mitek anchors and causing a world of problems.  his reviews speak for themselves.

A/G are the only guys in the US who does a consistent good job.  posnik is far too old now.  theres atleast one maxfac in every western european country who does a solid ccw.  this has been my understanding atleast.

A/G have their fair share of unsatisfied patients like all surgeons. They're not gods. http://jawsurgeryforums.com/index.php?topic=4163.0

Wolford is probably the best surgeon in the world if you get him to do surgery without TJR. His bad reviews are about the Mitek anchors.

I like Alfaro in Europe. He does big CCW rotations like A/G and Wolford and cares about aesthetics as well.

Wolford doesn't replace healthy joints. He recommends TJR if there's something wrong with them, but I also think he's too aggressive in his approach. A displaced disc doesn't warrant TJR, but patients with condylar resorption or TMJ arthritis could benefit from it in some cases.

ccw there are waaaaay too many people who can be found complaining of serious tmj issues caused by wolford.  many who had no tmj issue get swindled into his product and end up with life changing ailments.  ive only seen 3 unsatisfied A G patients.  albeit youre right that theyre not infallible, the reason people fly from around the world and pay their price is the quality and specialization of their work.  im really sad to see that girl had nerve damage, thats basically the reason im not going for jaw surgery to begin with.

Who is the girl you're talking about , was she operated on by A/G?. Also is the damage permanent and of what scale is it?
She had a numb upper lip. It's in the thread.

she never directly said A/G but the thread seems to imply it, since she paid 70k which nobody else on earth could get away with charging.

what scares me is that, from my understanding the BSSO part of the bimax is the risky part in terms of sensory nerve damage, and the fact that the surgeon (A or G) is unable to tell why the numbness is occurring (says he didnt cut any nerves, and cant find compression)

shes a year out which means the damage is likely permanent. says it makes kissing difficult, which sucks ass.

I have heard of people whose nerve damage improved after a revision. Tbh, I would've taken the revision offer, and she should've too since the less than perfect result clearly bothered her a lot.
