Silicone faial implants covered in gore-tex
« on: June 05, 2013, 04:12:59 PM »
does anyone know anything about these in terms of infection rates? Ive heard Gore-Tex implants aren't good.
I've heard Dr. Y started using them for custom cases.

The main pro of silicon (vs medpor) is that it's easy to remove and you don't get a significant scar capsule.  I consulted 3 docs before my chin implant and they all used silicon and wouldn't touch medpor as tissue grows into it and it's really hard to remove.  However medpor looks aesthetically better in some places eg. jaw angles

If gore-tex would make a silicone implant form more of a capsule or make it trickier to remove then I don't see the point tbh.  What are the advantages of a PTFE coating?

you would get a little ingrowth (not like porex that has full ingrowth) but at the same time can be removed somewhat easily
