I've been lurking on this site a while, but this is my first post.
I was due to have lower jaw surgery about 30 years ago (not sure what, but possibly bsso from what I've read on here) to correct a 13mm overjet and deep overbite. I had braces which reduced the overjet slightly, but I didn't go through with the surgery. I am now in my 50s and wonder if it is worth getting this done at my age. I am not concerned about appearance, but with functional aspects and improving my bite. I don't have any health problems (like sleep apnea), just occasional bruxism which a splint helps with. Though I would like to be able to eat normally and at a normal speed. I've read that having surgery when you are older has a greater risk of nerve damage, which is worrying.
Has anyone had such surgery in their 50s and if so did it improve the ability to eat and was it worth it?
