Implant Design Poll: A or B, which do you prefer?
« on: January 08, 2020, 07:31:51 PM »
As the title states: which do you prefer (A or B)?

After choosing one, you can expand on why if you'd like, although it's not obligatory.

Is the difference that you get zygomatic implants and an extra red dot in the other?

Not the best images to compare: not to scale, one shows just the mandible, the other most of the facial bones of the skull (in profile).

This doesn't say anything (especially without face). Only the surgeon knows how much should be added (a good surgeon). In the ideal case, he'll know beforehand during the design. If not, he should be able to carve it during surgery. Only a few surgeons know to design the right dimensions. It's not only a technical thing, you need to be an artist and have much experience. It mostly comes down to millimeters, it should look as naturally as possible.

Depending on the face, the above difference can make a huge real life difference. If you have a small face for example, one should usually be more cautious with adding too much. For other people, one or two millimeters more doesn't make alot of difference. It all depends on the face.

Gonial angle looks better on “A” I must say, although chin looks a bit exaggerated on both.

Honestly don’t think anyone can give a good answer without seeing the soft tissue

Yes, gonolial angle is more ideal on A, theoretically. But how does it work out in practice and how will it look from the front? Sometimes, there needs to be a trade off (higher gonolial angle from profile, in order to avoid U-shape or bloating at the front for example). It all depends on the face. It's kind of a difficult procedure to get it rightI guess.
