Can braces in adults cause negative growth, such as pushing the jaws backwards or downwards?

Since adult's facial bones aren't growing anymore I can't see how this could be the case? As far as I understand, in adults braces move teeth and not much else unless there have been extractions.

I've been in braces since last summer. I wouldn't say they've moved my jaw at all, but my bite is different so my underbite is definitely MUCH more noticeable right now. My teeth are being moved into the position they'll fit post-surgery. My front teeth used to touch in the front, but my bottom teeth curved inward. Now, my bottom teeth are about 5mm more forward than my top teeth. My ortho warned me that it would look worse before the surgery.

That is the standard procedure I guess? Mine too. Usually it is due to wisdom (?) tooth extraction. Yeah, so if it is for surgery, usually ur bite will be made slightly worse. Again, it depends
