Hardware (plates, screws) removal?
« on: September 16, 2018, 03:46:24 PM »
Has anyone here had hardware removal?

What was your experience like?
How long after the initial surgery did you have it done?
Were there any positive/negative effects?

Thanks!

Hi, I have removed screws and plates from both jaws and chin. I am currently 6 days post op and medium swelling is present. I would say that next week is realistic for going to job.
Pros: since first surgeon made a lot of assymmetries and revision is needed, I was suggested to remove the hardware 9 months post op. Additionally, two screws were relatively close to mandibular nerve so I am hoping for some recovery in chin area.
Cons: I would say none, regret doing the surgery in the first place

Mostly don't want to keep the metal in forever. Do you have a lot of numbness, and can you move your face?

Numbness was minimum and did not last for long period of time. However, on the other hand, swelling in my case was above the expectations and lasted for 3-4 weeks.
