Has anyone done distraction osteogenesis jaw surgery/IMDO as opposed to traditional surgery? And if so can anyone recommend a doctor within the east coast, thank you. I also would be interested in how your recovery was.

What makes you think you need DO instead of conventional surgery for your case?

I know some adults can get it so hopefully I’ll see if I can.

I meant WHAT GENUINE INDICATIONS DO YOU HAVE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CASE for DO being done on you INSTEAD OF CONVENTIONAL SURGERY (ie BSSO) or are you wanting DO just because it can also be done in adults despite there no being genuine indication for DO being done instead of conventional surgery for your case?

Do you happen to have severe crowding of the mandibular dental arch and therefore would benefit from an expansion of the arch via DO, Do you need >8-10mm mandibular advancement, Do you have TMJ problems? etc

Frankly, unless if there was an actual need for DO in your case I doubt any surgeons would do it just cause you want DO to be done for the sake of DO being done.

Don't know anyone who does IMDO in USA but there are 2 in Mexico

Looks a hell of a lot like the Australian Profilo clinic website.

IMDO, as an 'only' procedure as in absence of any conventional surgery with it, is for children, adolescents. The aim is to address the cause of an overbite and the facial disharmony  DURING the GROWING STAGES. Cause being small jaws.

In my opinion, adults who want to limit their options to the pursuit of 'only' that--and mind you, this is a TRADE-MARK procedure, meaning the guy who came up with it for CHILDREN has trademarked the term; 'IMDO'as to preclude other doctors from offering it by that term UNLESS they pay him licencing/certification fees to do so--will UNWITTINGLY be prioritizing their consultations to the FEW places MARKETING it by that term. 10 to 1 the consult will resolve to being told and sold on the conventional surgeries you're wanting to avoid in your pursuit of 'only' IMDO...and with a practitioner you may not have chosen to prioritize a consult with IF you had some way of knowing ahead of time the likelihood for an adult having only that would be highly unlikely.

So, the question is HOW do you want to FIND OUT it's highly UNLIKELY, you as an adult, will be offered 'only' IMDO and INSTEAD have the consultation resolve to being told and sold on the conventional surgeries you are wanting to avoid having.

Do you want to find that out in the process of LIMITING your consults to the 2 places with the trade rights to market it by that term AND because those are the ONLY 2 places you would go to for the conventional surgery (which I don't think is the case because your preferred geo-local is east USA and not Australia or Mexico)?

That's what your singular pursuit of IMDO has a 90% chance of resolving to when all you 'know' is that you WANT something but demonstrate on here as clueless as to what your situation really is.

I know some adults can get it so hopefully I’ll see if I can.

Yes. Apparently, he's trademarked the term; 'IMDO' and licences use of it to those paying for the trade rights to market with the term.

My original question is and still is “Has anyone done distraction osteogenesis jaw surgery/IMDO as opposed to traditional surgery?”. Not sure why you are all concerned weather or not I am a candidate for I will find that out myself.

Also I think IMDO is a bit more than just licensing - Dr C has been doing IMDO for many years and hasn't 'trusted' anyone else to do it, up until 2016 it seems.

Dr. José Antonio, First Certified Surgeon in IMDO (Intermolar Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis).

He also has a patent on the design for the distractors he uses - google search "patent distractor coceancig"

We are assuming 'Dope...' is an ADULT looking for other adults that had IMDO and not a 13 year old. It looks like your 'Yes' is a reference to your 13-14 year old daughter who had it.

When they put a TRADEMARK on in, it's all about licencing use of the term in trade and little to do with 'trusting anyone else to do it'. That's a lot different from a doctor who contributes knowledge/innovation to advance the field and does so by giving open courses to other doctors on the method or publishing papers so the method can be done by others.
Trademarking a surgical method just demonstrates a desire for advancing himself as opposed to advancing the field with the method. Trademarks and patents are fine for devices and software (intellectual property). Does he have to 'trust'a potential buyer if they want to buy something he has a patent on? I don't think so.
