To post op. 1 year or more patients.how does your lower lip/chin feels?

I am more than one year post op. to underbite double jaw surgery , my lower lip feels really strange , i think i got numb patches but if i touch i feel the area though it really gets hard and stiff time to time .
to everybody who been through this surgery please explain how did your recovery go and now after a year span how do you feel in your lower lip area , numbness is the most common risk of this surgery and thus it makes me anxious to know if there is anybody who recovered completely from it

I'm 2 years post-op and my entire lower lip, lower gums and chin is partially numb. I don't think about it much.

Isnt there a surgery for nerve repair?  I dont think you can wait a year to get it but i hear there are oral surgeons who specialize in nerve repair.

I believe that is for severed nerves, not damage from nerves being stretched.

its been more than 5 years since my last jaw surgery ..Ive had two jaw surgeries by the way and as a result i got permanent nerve damage on my bottom lip..that was the least of my worries..I just wanted to improve my smile

I'm now 1,5 month post-op and most of the numbness has gone away entirely, except for a small spot on the lower left of my bottom lip that still feels a bit 'off' when stretched or kissed. I guess I got lucky?

yes you got very lucky. But you get used to it with time..

Yeah, I got really lucky, as I've got all the feeling in my lower lip back now.

Did you had your wisdom teeth removed before surgery? i think this plays a role in compression of nerve during surgery

I still have all my wisdom teeth. Only had two premolars removed from the lower jaw, a year in advance.

It would suck but as long as the numbness doesn't make you unable to use your mouth and lips like before I'd accept the risk.

Well, I only had numbness for a short while (3-4 weeks), and only in minor parts of my face (left lower lip and chin), but it got annoying fairly quickly. I can imagine it can drive one insane if it was permanent, if one is sensitive to such things. On the other hand, the people in this thread seem to be able to cope, so YMMV.

^From what I've read from people it can take a long time but eventually they get used to the numb feeling as they 'forget' what that part of tissue used to feel like.
That's just numbness. It's a whole other thing if they for some reason have some kind of irritation or even pain that won't go away.

Yeah, permanent nerve pain would be a lot worse. I sometimes have slight 'zaps' along my jawline, apparently the mandibular nerve likes to remind me it's still there and functioning.
