No, your jaws aren't recessed.

No, your jaws aren't recessed.

If that was the case then I wouldn't be on this forum

I don't think you look bad enough to warrant surgery mate.

What about that Indian guy who you told to get genio at most? I think that he is less of surgery case than me.

Your chin has more projection than him and is in better balance with your face. Although, it would be easier to judge if you showed a profile shot where your entire face can be seen rather than these close ups.
You can have a recessed mandible and a big chin.

This.

I only have one life so might as well do it. Plus, I can afford Arnett/Gunson with or without my parents.

After seeing the kinds of invasive surgeries that syndrome patients have, I'm confident that I can recover.

The only thing I'm really scared of is uncertainty of outcome.

I guess I could live with it for the rest of my life, I've been told that I'm attractive by both genders and I have a normal social/sex life.

Yeah OP your mandible is retrognathic.  Your head is tilted up in your profile photos and is also not square with your shoulders in that you are turning to the side away from your camera which pulls the camera-side skin a little tighter.  Your neck probably appears "fleshier" in person or on video.  That your lower lip curls so far forward yet your chin has decent projection given your labiomental fold is telling.  Your upper incisors are retroclined and I'm assuming your lowers are proclined.  I'll bet your overjet, if you were to have ortho decompensation, would not be insignificant.

Is this affecting your health?  IDK.  Is it taking away from your facial attractiveness?  Yeah, to some extent it is.

Edit-
Yes, you will want/need to wait to have surgery.  You've got some time to go, unfortunately, probably a few years.  But the good news is twofold:
1) If needed, it may not be too late to get some expansion done without surgery.  I'm admittedly not sure if the age cutoff for males.  I'd find a good ortho in your area and consult ASAP.
2) You're going to be good looking post-op.

Yep kjohnt, you're right on the money. You're 100% correct about my bite, the bottom of my upper incisors basically give my lower lip support lol.

My head is minimally turned up in the photos, surprisingly for 25% bodyfat, my neck isn't very fleshy at all (compared to when I was 10% bodyfat it is though). I store a lot of fat in my legs, buttocks, abdomen and arms.

I've already visited my local Ortho (traditional Ortho concerned only with smile fixing and disregarding jaw position and aesthetics, recommended by my dentist) and said that since my teeth are straight and they aren't causing me any problems, there's no point in working on them (He measured a 3mm overjet btw).

The position of my jaw and teeth has taken away from my looks to some extent, but now that I've thought about it more I think that I can live with it and that I'll be fine. Either that or I'll revisit this conversation when I'm in my twenties. Do you think that post-op will be VERY significant? And what procedures do you think I would have to undergo?

Edit: I'd need my pallette expanded? I already have a good palette but maybe you could tell me something I don't know? It wouldnt need to be something drastic like SARPE, right?

I don't think it's so bad that you need surgery. You're only 17... how could you afford Gunson/Arnett without your parents?

I've been helping my parents with their business ever since I was about 10. Not officially employed but just "helping." My parents did this to develop my work ethic and other skills. I started working a real job when I was 14 years old (first it was working retail in an electronics store then I went on to fixing cellphones which was a pretty sweet arrangement). I saved up a decent amount of money and decided to start my own business. After researching the kinds of things I could do, I decided to start a drop shipping business. I researched all the ins and outs of it, sought out others who succeeded in the field/related fields, spoke to manufacturers/suppliers and developed a business plan. It brings in a high amount of revenue, especially for someone my age.

We also have very good private insurance.

You should've posted these in the OP. kjohnt is correct, but I don't think you look bad or "deformed". Do you have any issues besides your appearance?

Very, no.  But you'd look better.  You might be able to get away with just BSSO, but I've come to the conclusion that bimax is probably the best option for most patients.  In any case, your maxillary projection looks good to me.  Possible genio, not sure, could maybe slightly lengthen both horizontally and vertically.

I'd need my pallette expanded? I already have a good palette but maybe you could tell me something I don't know? It wouldnt need to be something drastic like SARPE, right?

I said if needed, which it sounds like it isn't.  And I was pointing out that you nay be young enough that your palette hasn't fully fused so could possibly do it without SARPE and just an expander, but no matter.

You are a good candidate for lower jaw surgery. I feel like you could benefit from some slight maxillary CCW rotation from an aesthetic viewpoint too, but nowhere near as much as you would benefit from lower jaw surgery. You would got an aesthetically satisfactory result from lower jaw surgery, so you may want to skip upper jaw surgery if you want to reduce complication risk, prices etc.; but if I were you I would go for both.

People shouldn't have said you're not a candidate for jaw surgery based on those pictures. Being told you're not eligible for jaw surgery when you're convinced that it would benefit you can be devastating. I was "gaslighted" that way by several incompetent surgeons until I saw Dr Gunson. You're definitely a candidate for double jaw surgery, but less experienced observers might not see it due to the compensations you have going on, like bad head posture and normal overjet. Your upper incisors are not only retroclined but they're very far from your upper lip, which shows your maxilla's quite recessed as well. At least that's what Dr Gunson called attention to in my case and I'm having my maxilla rotated and advanced 9 mm. Since you have the money I would recommend you look into this now rather than later. I'm only 22 but I still wish I'd fixed this problem around your age -- my confidence would have been better.
