From famous people, i cannot name a single person that looks better after surgery. From what i have seen on psl forums, only a few tot very good results. One of them is SJ (but according to some on this site he is fake). The ones with bad results and botched jobs don't seem to post their pics. Then there are the pics surgeons post on their sites. Their best results.

Is plastic surgery a scam to lure in insecure people, or are the techniques just not good enough yet, or is it a blessing?

Why aren't there positive reviews on this board? It seems people just dissappear after their surgery or opt for revision. Almost never a satisfied patient with extensive positive review. The reviews on Realself are mostly fake. Where are the satisfied people?

SJ looks ridiculous now (due to too many procedures) and is quite recessed post-surgery.

I can think of a few people on the FB who had truly great results, and I saw one girl in-person. Maybe a dozen total in the 7 years I've been following jaw surgery.
Millimeters are miles on the face.

What do you mean SJ is quite recessed now. I don't think that's true. Sure he's gotten some strong filler work done ---depending on your taste he may look a little too done. But he definitely isn't recessed. If you have some special information or pics supporting this please pm me GJ.

Well, I'll raise my hand...

I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my surgery (double jaw + sliding genio). Granted, I'm only 3 months out, but even if I didn't continue to heal from this point forward, I would be thrilled with the outcome and would do it again in a heartbeat. I should also mention that because the goal of my surgery was primarily to resolve a medical issue, I considered the aesthetic improvements to be icing on the cake. That said, even if cosmetics were the only reason for my surgery, I still would be 100% satisfied.

I would assume that it's less likely to see positive reviews here from patients after their recovery, because that's the outcome they were expecting/hoping for - so what more do they have to talk about? Whereas someone with a less-than-favorable result or botched job is more likely to want to air their grievances, warn others to not use their surgeon, and/or to seek advice from those who have experienced the same.

I think there's also something to be said about surgeons doing a poor job of managing patient's expectations (or, patients not listening to surgeons about potential outcomes). I don't think that's necessarily intentional, but it's kind of shocking to hear people who have expectations of being able to eat in a week; having no pain or residual numbness, etc. My surgeon was VERY clear about stuff like that, so there were no surprises.

If we are talking jaw surgery, not PS, there are definetly satisfied people out there for sure (FB for starters). Keep in mind satisifed =/= a perfect result. Their results could be picked apart by someone on here, but the people themselves are satisfied with their changes.

In person I know 5 who've had jaw surgery (a mix of both class 2 & 3). They didn't transform into amazingly different people (although two look pretty good) but they're all completely happy.

Ignorance is bliss. It seems the less you "overthink" it the happier you'll be.

He's clearly recessed. His bite is poor too. Frankly I'm shocked that a big name like Pelo would produce such a poor, poor result. He has outstanding features and the chin wings, filler masked the issues. Had he had a properly preformed CCW surgery, he would not have needed that s**t.

Hey, I had surgery in november and I'm really satisfied with the result! Its not perfect, but I realised perfection is not a realistic goal. I had a Bimax and HA paste on the cheekbone area. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask! :)

If he still looks like the last pics he sent then he looks good. You can always look better, but we should not have extreme expertations. Maybe he has overdone now and looks a bit like Kent, i don't know. He should stop trying to aim for perfection.

Of course a surgeon will have their best results posted on their website. They're selling their product, their ability to improve people. I don't find this problematic really since they all do it. Only ones I have problems with are disingenuous before/afters with no consistency in variables like lighting, angle, makeup etc.

Satisfaction is never a guarantee with anything. Even with the best surgeons you still run the risk of looking worse or developing functional issues. The vast majority of people that genuinely need surgery will look better post OP but whether or not this is "satisfactory" depends on your expectations. Most people are content with improving/eliminating functional issues and getting rid of/improving upon unaesthetic traits (excessive gum show, lack of tooth show, no chin, excessive downward growth etc) if you expect to come out looking totally different then yeah you'll be disappointed nearly every time. Surgery is just like life. It's a gamble with what results you'll get.

All you can really do is make sure you're going to an ethical, skilled surgeon and take the gamble whilst being level headed/having reasonable expectations. Things can still go wrong but this maximises your chances of being satisfied.

If I wouldve known before what I know now I would not have gotten the surgery. You probably need first the money for surgery and then the money for revising the surgery if you want to have surgery.

Don't judge a surgeon solely based on the results online. There's a bias in what they'll post and what the average result is.

In my case my surgeon (Dr. David Behrman from New York Presbyterian hospital) provided a list of 50+ patients who volunteered their contact info. But any surgeon performing 100 surgeries/year will have plenty success stories even by chance. Take a wild guess if anyone from NYP asked me to be included on that list after my operation did not go as planned.

I'd say your best defense to finding a good surgeon is to get multiple opinions and choose the one you trust the most.

I had double jaw surgery + genioplasty for open bite, recessed chin, long face. I’ve been super disappointed with the results. My first surgery was 100% paid for by insurance and I regret it. I’m currently planning for revision with Dr G, but it’ll cost a fortune. Strongest advice is don’t go to the nearest in-network surgeon, do your research and interview past patients.

A whole bunch of surgeons just overdo the surgeries. When you need subtle changes and you specifically ask for that, and then you end up with a complete other facial structure that doesn't fit your face at all, it's really fcked up. After custom wrap around implants i ended it up with bloated face + way too big structure. After cw i end up with long face, slight bananashape and jawangles that are way too low. Really extremely frustrating. Most surgeons don't understand facial harmony and are extremely blinded by one part of the face of their own specialism. There are only a few surgeons that understand facial harmony and proportions.

Damn dude, your story 100% mirrors mine. Who was your surgeon? I think cases like ours need a Gunson/Wolford level surgeon to get a satisfactory outcome.

I'm 3 weeks post op and I'll tell you I'm not quite satisfied. Reason being is I had absolutely no say in my treatment plan. Every request I've asked has been shut down by the ortho or the surgeon. I've been in tmj pain for so long that I just wanted to get it over with. Well I wanted a counterclockwise mma as I have an underbite and my mandible is quite steep. They just went ahead and did a lefort 1. Tmj still hurts because my mandible wants to swing up like I told the them many times already! back teeth clash hard and eating is quite painful. I've described my symptoms and that I also wanted a sarpe for my crossbite. They were going to but then changed their minds. Since I knew they wouldn't touch my mandible I though okay I'll request a genioplasty so my chin is less pointed downward and more forward. Perhaps that can make my mandible look a little less steep. Well turns out the they charged me 3000 for the genioplasty and my chin looks absolutely no different!! If you want jaw surgery done fast go to penn medicine. If you want surgery done right go somewhere else. Based on my experience anyway.
