Why aren't there positive reviews on this board? It seems people just dissappear after their surgery or opt for revision. Almost never a satisfied patient with extensive positive review. The reviews on Realself are mostly fake. Where are the satisfied people?
Well, I'll raise my hand...
I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my surgery (double jaw + sliding genio). Granted, I'm only 3 months out, but even if I didn't continue to heal from this point forward, I would be thrilled with the outcome and would do it again in a heartbeat. I should also mention that because the goal of my surgery was primarily to resolve a medical issue, I considered the aesthetic improvements to be icing on the cake. That said, even if cosmetics were the only reason for my surgery, I still would be 100% satisfied.
I would assume that it's less likely to see positive reviews here from patients after their recovery, because that's the outcome they were expecting/hoping for - so what more do they have to talk about? Whereas someone with a less-than-favorable result or botched job is more likely to want to air their grievances, warn others to not use their surgeon, and/or to seek advice from those who have experienced the same.
I think there's also something to be said about surgeons doing a poor job of managing patient's expectations (or, patients not listening to surgeons about potential outcomes). I don't think that's necessarily intentional, but it's kind of shocking to hear people who have expectations of being able to eat in a week; having no pain or residual numbness, etc. My surgeon was VERY clear about stuff like that, so there were no surprises.
