Best chin wing result I’ve seen
« on: May 19, 2020, 04:45:48 AM »
On par with jaw implants IMO. This is 3 months after surgery, maybe there’s still swelling. But if this is the final result it’s probably the best I’ve seen in terms of jaw widening.

The only disappointment is the goinal angle isn’t much improved in profile view. Maybe he got more jaw widening than ramus drop down. I’d expect a ramus drop down to flatten the mandibular plane. I think it’s because his entire mandible border including the chin was dropped down so that the goinal angle stays pretty much the same.

Is he straining to seal his lips in the post op photos?

Looks like it. Doesn't seem like the mentalis is straining much though.  Maybe a bit

True. Short-faced patients who elongate their chins could face this as a drawback.

The Chin shortening He wants to do on me would reduce the mild lip strain I have now.

Seens more like something hit the nerve, causing lipasymmetry + paralysis.

He looks (looked) like an excellent candidate for chin wing. Lip line up in before doesn't show mandibular retrusion (as in class 2 situation). So, he was a good chin wing candidate to begin with.

He had some chin retrusion and a jaw angle area that could be made lower and wider. So, chin wing targeted aesthetic correction of those areas.

There is some STRETCH to his lower lip. But NO info as to how long post op he is. PO time would give some clue whether or not the lower lip is temporary or permanent.

Is the frontal result only by pulling the CHIN forward?
It seems is whole jaw is forward

A chin wing will give this impression depending on the cut because the mandibular border is manipulated, not just the chin.

Chin wing is osteotomy of lower mandibular border.

This picture looks like the entire mandible is reduced, but how did he get his mandibular angle wider than before?

It's a diagram of an isolated osteotomy of the lower mandibular border, often called a 'chin wing'. The space between the cut is where they put the bone graft aimed at giving more HEIGHT to the mandible. Therefore it's not reduced.
