should I keep my appointment
« on: September 24, 2013, 04:31:25 PM »
I am looking into having a quadrangular lefort 2 osteotomy or some other type of non jaw midface surgery.  I have several doctors lined up. I e-mailed the practice that did my BSSO because one doc I spoke to who doesn't do the surgery said that a doctor from that practice(a different one from the one who did my BSSO) might. I emailed her and  included a diagram of the surgery. I spoke with the office manager who claimed she said she can do it but I need to come in for an evaluation. I'm not sure it's worth my time. Many surgeon "can do" this surgery. BUT most don't do it often and for non syndrome cases.I asked if I can send pics and a conebeam scan to the doc to re-review but they told me I have to go down in person. although its local, I still need to use a vacation day.  I really really don't want to go down there only to hear we only do this surgery   for extreme cases or syndrome cases, it's way too risky to do on you. I feel that will happen.  all the other docs I contacted are out of state. they told me to send  photos and conebeam and they will decide if I should come down.... they said yes. What should I do?
I don't mean this to offend anyone, and I know many people might have a different experience or view, but I only chose her because I feel her being a female(I personally feel from my life experience that woman are far more shallower than men) and she might be more sympathetic  to to doing it to improve my looks.

This is what I'll say. I've had a ton of consultations. 7 so far just for jaw surgery. Wish to god I had done the same for the orthodontists. Especially since the ortho consults are basically free.

From each of the consults, I learned "something" that helped towards my decision and put a piece of the puzzle together, even though number 4 surgeon is basically the one I will go with, I did a few more just learn a few more things. Some of the later consults just reinforced that surgeon number 4 was the right one because I could compare his thoroughness/results etc.. with the later surgeons. Another thing I will tell you is speaking to actual patients of the surgeon is VERY VERY helpful as well. And then of course, doing your research on sites etc.. like this.

Here's what I don't like, seems that this local surgeon really wants the consultation fee, since she's making you come in. Yes, she probably will tell you what you don't want to hear. But, I'm not sure, if the consult fee is under 100 dollars, I frankly would say do it...but just take the time to ask her as many questions as possible.

But if you're pretty sure these other surgeons are better, and you'll end up going with one of them anyway....then just forget it.

to be honest with you , I don't think I will learn anything new. She will probably says yes I have a midface deficiency but this procedure is very risky and dangerous. why not try fat or implants
